Why Swedish candy tastes like this
Swedes get through around 33 pounds of candy a head every year, more than any other country, and it shows in how the stuff is made.
Imported whole, not licensed
The bags come from the same makers a Swedish supermarket buys from: Bubs, Cloetta, Malaco, Fazer, Aroma, Candy People. Nothing here is an American lookalike of a Swedish original, which is the whole reason the Swedish Fish in Sweden taste like a different sweet entirely.
Colored by food, mostly
We checked the ingredient list of every candy we sell. The colors come from carrot, turmeric, black carrot, spirulina, beetroot and caramelized sugar, and the only synthetic dyes left anywhere in the range are blues, which is why the greens and violets sit out as well. Dye-free candy is the shelf without them.
Weighed, not portioned
Pick one piece or forty. Bags are priced by exact weight at $18.95 a pound with a half pound minimum, so you never pay for a fixed size you did not want. We weigh and pack every order by hand in Boca Raton.
Questions people actually ask
- What is lördagsgodis?
- Saturday candy. A Swedish habit about 70 years old: instead of a little candy every day, families pick a big mixed bag once a week and share it. That is the ritual this shop is built around, and you do not have to wait for Saturday.
- How much does it cost?
- $18.95 a pound for a custom mix, charged by exact weight with a half pound minimum, so a small bag is a small bill. Shipping is free over $50 and a flat $8 under it.
- How is it different from American candy?
- Sharper sour, less sugar coating, and far more texture: foam, salty licorice, pressed chews and starch-set gummies that bite short instead of stretching. Most of it is colored with fruit and vegetable extracts rather than synthetic dye.
- Do you ship across the US?
- Yes, to all 50 states from Boca Raton, Florida. Orders are packed by hand and go out in 1 to 2 business days. We do not ship internationally yet.
- Is there anything for vegans or a gluten-free diet?
- Plenty. Every candy page carries the maker’s own ingredient list, and there are shelves for vegan candy, gluten-free candy and gelatin-free candy, each marked by the maker rather than guessed by us.
