Salty Licorice
Salty licorice, salmiak to the Nordics, gets its bite from ammonium chloride rather than table salt, and it divides every room it enters. This shelf holds the salmiak pieces on our wall, from Tyrkisk Peber with its powdered salmiak center to small salty licorice coins, plus a couple of sealed salty licorice bags.

What makes it salty
Read the labels on this shelf and the same ingredient shows up every time: ammonium chloride, the salt behind salmiak. It is sharper and more mouth-filling than table salt, and paired with licorice extract it makes the flavor the Nordic countries grew up on. Tyrkisk Peber adds ordinary salt and a fiery kick on top. Skolkritor hides its salty licorice under a pastel candy shell, and the salty licorice coins wrap it in a small hard coating.
Start small
Salty licorice is an acquired taste, and nobody needs a pound of it on day one. Add two or three pieces to a mixed bag, try one, and decide. If it clicks, the sealed bags below give you more of the same, and the Swedish licorice shelf has sweeter licorice for the people you are sharing with.
Salty licorice in a sealed bag
Two sealed bags carry salmiak too: the Bubs Raspberry Salty Licorice skulls, which pair raspberry foam with a salty licorice side, and Gott & Blandat Salt, Malaco's salty licorice mix. Both ship sealed, exactly as they are sold in Sweden, and go into the same order as anything you pick from the wall.
